The best way to show that you understand something is to teach others, especially children! In this projects, students create a teaching tool for children (they can choose ages 3-8) about either food safety or kitchen safety. This project would be suitable for a Foods/Culinary class or a child development class. By allowing students to choose how they want to teach children, they take more ownership of their project to create something that has meaning to them.
Options abound, but ideas include books, comics, board games, poems, songs with actions. Photos of student work are included. I have had lots of success giving real children the finished work to get their opinions of what students have created--they don't censor their thoughts!
