Product Description
NOTE: This book is an excellent graphic novel about the issue of child soldiers told from the perspective of a former child soldier. It is an AMAZING book, and I can't stress that enough, however, the content is difficult and more on the mature side because of the nature of the topic. I definitely suggest teachers read the book before implementing in the classroom.

A Reading Road Map will give you the magical power of multiplying yourself.

Seriously, I’m not kidding.

With Reading Road Maps, a student can reap the benefits of having an “expert reader” demonstrate good comprehension methods and questioning strategies. Reading road maps are designed to help students read independently by having each reader interact with the text while reading. The road maps utilize specific skills for high-level reading, such as inferring, predicting, summarizing, and visualizing. At times, the road map “models” good comprehension strategies by commenting on elements in the book using proven methods for comprehension. Additionally, students are able to self-select a book and read at their own pace while being held accountable for their comprehension.

These resources allow teachers to evaluate student comprehension and progress on a specific text. The questions are not general (who is the main character) but focus on precise events, characters, conflicts, plots, thematic issues.

This unique resource offers 50 pages of materials to help kids read independently and comprehend text using a variety of skills. It includes a detailed answer key, specific text-related questions, vocabulary words with definitions and page numbers, a culminating multiple-choice and short answer quiz (with answers), vocabulary extension activities, six writing prompts, a research component, and enrichment activities involving the multiple intelligences. AND if that weren't enough, it's pretty to look at too!

Perfect for grades 2-4, ELL students, or struggling readers. Can be used with individual students, whole-class instruction, or in conjunction with literature circles.
