This is an enrichment packet to the novel. It contains various research topics about Khmer Rouge and the governmental overthrow in April 1975. Students are asked to do a bit of research, with many links already included, and produce newspaper articles focusing on the human injustices of the time period.
Also included are links and a template map of Cambodia so that students are able to visualize the environment portrayed. Correlation to Vietnam is taken into consideration and asks for student input.
Students are asked to submit a formal letter, how to link included, asking the United Nations for help Sundara's family.
This is also a great resource to summer, personal reading. This alternate book report enables a deep political understanding of the situation at hand. Furthermore, students are asked to list the abuses in the book and do some research to see if they are accurate.
