Multiculturalism - Children of the World

Teaching about all of the different cultures that make up our world is a very important thing for children to learn. It teaches them about similarities and differences of people and tolerance for the various customs, foods and things that make people unique.

If you are teaching about families or communities or friendships, you may want to consider having your students study communities around the world. This is a great project for the end of the year as well as the beginning of the year! Many of these cultures make up our own country that we live in. As Walt Disney says "It's a Small World".

This resource is a simple format set of printables that give you ideas for how to introduce and teach students how to complete a mini research unit on a country of their choice.

Included in this resource:

Teacher's introduction and guide

Parent letters:

*1 to introduce the topic and have students pick a country (maybe based on their own heritage),
*1 to tell parents the research is almost done and you would like to have a festival including artifacts from the country (which could just be art work) and a special luncheon featuring food that is brought in by each child from the country they are studying.
*1 invitation for parents to join in the celebration.

One small flag for each of the following countries:
Australia, China, Japan, Sweden, Germany, Canada, USA, Poland, Mexico, Vietnam, Russia, England, Korea, Phillipines, Jamaica, Greece

One set of printables for students to take notes.

One good copy paper set where students will write up their research.

One "OUR MULTICULTURAL WORLD" colored poster for display purposes with each letter representing a country flag.
