I made this song book to keep my students engage throughout the songs that we would sing. The visual aids help in keeping them engage while they are still learning important skills such as matching, receptive and expressive identification. They are able to learn these skills in a fun and interactive way.
It was made for my pre-k students with autism, however you can also use it in a regular pre-k, kindergarten, or 1st grade classroom. You can use it during morning meeting, circle, throughout the day, or just when they need some music and fun in their day!
Here is a little detailed description of how I use it:
I printed all the pages on card stock and laminated them all to keep them sturdy. You will want to keep this for years, so this will make them last a lot longer! I used a three-hole punch to punch holes in them and then put binder rings in each of the three holes to keep the book together.
Each page is either a page in the song book or visuals that will need to be cut out to be velcro on the corresponding song page.
Pages 1-5, 9, 11-12, 14-15, 17-18, 20-21, 23-24, 26-27, 29-30, 32-35, 37-38, 40-41, and 43 are all pages that are a part of the song book. All other pages are the visuals that correspond to the song and should be cut out and Velcro to the corresponding song.
-Pages 3-5 are used as places to store the song choices.
-Also, I have included lyrics to each of the songs, sometimes I even forget what the lyrics are! In my book before I laminate my pages, I put the song background on one side and then put the lyrics on the backside, so that we it is laminated you can see the song background on one side and the lyrics on the other side.
-I also store the visuals that don't have a place on the front, on the back where there is spaces available around the lyrics.
If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to ask! I hope you enjoy this Children's song book, as much as my students do!
I know that this may take a while to put together, but it is so worth it when you're done! Also, if possible, after you have completed making the song book, send me pictures! I would love to see the outcome of your books!
"Be the change you wish to see in the world."
