More Info:
Your students will learn about 3 aspects of Chinese history and culture: Daoism, Kong Fuzi (Confucius), and Vegetables. The texts are representative of the larger, paid resource.
The reading passages in this resource are at different levels of reading complexity. They are suitable for older English Language Learners, younger native English speakers, as well as other students.
The comprehension questions ask students to identify the main idea, indicate the supporting details, and explain how the illustration supports the information in the paragraph. These questions help your students develop skills they will use when reading all kinds of texts during their school years.
You can use this resource remotely in 2 ways:
a) When teaching synchronously or asynchronously online, display and/or read aloud the pages of the sampler (ie the paragraphs about China). Then display the comprehension questions and have students write/type the answers or discuss them if using a platform than enables you to do that. Share answers with your class.
b) For students to do on their own: Send photocopies of the China paragraphs and comprehension questions home or have students print them out if they can do that themselves. Tell students to read the paragraphs and answer the questions. Tell students to send their work back to you.
Use this resource to give your students a taste of China whenever you are teaching about the county or when it's Chinese (Lunar) New Year.
