The Mongol Empire, which began as a collection of nomadic Central Asian tribes, soon grew to be the largest contiguous land empire in history. Included among the Mongols’ conquered territories was China, which was then ruled by the declining Song Dynasty.
This two-part worksheet provides an overview of Mongol & Ming rule, beginning with Kublai Khan's 1279 defeat of the Song Dynasty's armies, to the seven "Ming Voyages" of Zheng He. Part I contains ten matching questions that center on important names, terms and concepts, including Marco Polo, Genghis Khan and the Pax Mongolica. Part II contains two short answer questions that are more focused on specific aspects of Mongol and Ming rule: how did the Mongols avoid absorbing Chinese culture? What impact did the Ming dynasty's naval dominance have on the future of their rule?
