Medieval China was a very advanced civilization compared to many cultures and countries in the rest of the world. One of the important reasons for studying China is to help the students grasp the important inventions, advancements and accomplishments China gave the rest of the world.
The activities included expose the students to Time Line development and classification. They are to be used in conjunction with a textbook chapter on Medieval China, supplementary activities provided by the teacher, teacher led class discussions using the included complete timeline, or information about Medieval China from the internet.
-Time Line Activity - A blank Time Line is provided for the students to fill in with the required information about each of the Medieval Dynasties of China (Sui, Tang, Song, Yuan, and Ming) and should be self-explanatory. I would suggest the students not write in sentences on the Time Line to allow more room for information.
-Classification Activity - using their information from the Time Line, the students will place the inventions, advancements and accomplishments in the appropriate category. It is hoped that the students will see overlaps in achievements of the different dynasties. An outlining and paragraph writing assignment make up the concluding exercises of the unit. It gives practice in the building blocks of analytical writing.
