Product Description

This lesson uses primary source-based student learning centers to teacher students about Chinese immigration to California, and Chinese exclusion. A complete lesson features a lesson plan, class reading, student worksheets, a summary activity and primary source documents for the following student learning centers:

Station A: Reasons for leaving China and the journey to California
Station B: How Chinese immigrants lived and worked in America
Station C: The discrimination and perception of Chinese immigrants
Station D: Support for Chinese immigrants, and voices against discrimination

Each station includes 5 documents, selected for being high interest, and edited for length and clarity. Students make notes at each station, then compile their learning in a letter home to China that synthesizes their knowledge of the Chinese immigrant experience. 90-120 minutes of challenging, engaging, and ready-to-print and use lesson materials.
