Description

In my book, the World Language Daily Tech Guide, I show teachers how to increase target language usage in the classroom and improve classroom management.

For more info on the process go to: http://www.90percenttargetlanguage.com

Here is an example of my daily tech guide for the first day translated from English into Mandarin Chinese. As the week progresses, I'll be using embedded songs, videos, ancillary videos and audio activities from my text book and other copyrighted material that limits what I can share with you but is explained in the book.

This simple PowerPoint presentation can be adapted to your class and your teaching voice and then imported into your interactive board software. Perfect for First Day Mandarin Chinese Class.

I do not know Mandarin. I had asked one Mandarin Teacher to translate when another volunteered so I had two versions made. This is the first version.

This makes sense because whenever I create a slide show, I have at least two teachers who teach that language review what I do, even when it is a language I teach.

Fifteen years ago, I made some Mandarin grouping cards, investing several hundred dollars and about 50 hours of my time. Each Mandarin teacher who saw them had a different criticism, which I would change, and then the next teacher would criticize something else.

I ended up throwing them out because I could never get consensus from the teachers, and the Mandarin teachers couldn’t look past the tiny difference.

So here I am 15 years later, wanting to make Tech Guides for all languages, realizing that I will probably have the same experience. Two wonderful teachers graciously helped me, and I will be sharing their versions. As for the Mandarin Survival Slides, I combined their two versions into one PowerPoint so that you can choose from within the slideshow and it is twice as long as the other slide shows.

If you don’t like their Mandarin, send me your version of the slide and I will include it and re-upload it. The idea is for you to have a base to start with and save you time. Please e-mail me directly if you have a difference you feel must be changed, rather than going through the website. My address: mrsshrager@comcast.net .

I hope you enjoy this as your students realize from day one how much Mandarin they can understand and use and are inspired to embrace your class.
