PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Celebrate the Chinese New Year (also know as Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival) with a fun math activity! Teach your students about a holiday celebrated by one fifth of the world’s population.

The “Lunar New Year Math Activities” is one of the activities in my Lunar New Year educational series. (Lunar New Year will be used to reference Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival). This activity can be used in conjunction with Chinese New Year Poof Book Activity, Fun Facts About Chinese New Year Introductory Activity, or Chinese New Year Dragons Clipart!. You can now get all the Lunar New Year activities as a bundle!

The questions in this activity serves two purposes—to get your students to use their math and problem solving skills, and to teach them the facts about numbers in Chinese culture.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Included in this activity:

☑ Numbers Behind The Traditions
Math questions created to get your students problem solving while teaching them facts about the special numbers in Chinese culture. The numbers used in the questions are meaningful in Chinese culture. The answer sheet can be given out as a Fact Sheet to accompany the informational booklet included in the “Fun Facts about the Lunar New Year” activity.

This activity can be used with the Problem Solving Template and Strategies packet.

☑ Numbers Behind The Traditions – Task Cards
Task cards can be given to individuals or groups to solve. The cards can be used with the worksheets to record answers. Can be printed front and back with “Meanings” Task Cards to provide students with one cultural questions and one math question to answer.

☑ Parts of the Dragon
Learn about the parts that make up a mythical dragon and start a discussion about the shapes that can be used to create one. You can have your students list out the parts and have them create their own dragons using their own shapes.
