☑ Fun Facts about the Lunar New Year
An illustrated Fact Sheet created to generate interest about the Lunar New Year. This infographic can be used with any other Lunar New Year activities. The Customs and Traditions of the Lunar New Year, the Chinese Zodiac, and the Parts of a Dragon are displayed in this infographic.


☑ Meanings Behind the Traditions – Worksheet/Recording Sheet/Fact Sheet
Get your students to start thinking about the Lunar New Year with these cultural questions. This versatile worksheet can be used several ways:

+ Have your students write down what they think, using prior knowledge or by making connections to other holidays they have celebrated, or customs they know about.

+ Give your students the questions and have them research the answers.

+ Hand out the answer sheet as a Fact Sheet for the Lunar New Year.


☑ Meanings Behind the Traditions Task Cards
Task cards can be given to individuals or groups to solve. The cards can be used with the worksheets to record answers. Can be printed front and back with “Numbers” Task Cards (look for them in the store or in the bundle) to provide students with one cultural question and one math question to answer. Your students can use the worksheet to record all the information they gather.

Learn about the significance of the traditions of the Lunar New Year with this Poof Book! This foldable provides 6 questions + 1 summarizing question to lead your students into discovering why the Lunar New Year (Spring Festival) is celebrated.

You can use this answer key to check your students’ work, or hand it out to your students as an informational booklet. This can be used in conjunction with the Current Events Template. You can print the information on one side and the Current Events activity on the other side.

Current Events version allows your student to find a news article about the Lunar New Year/Spring Festival and write about what they’ve discovered. Read the articles in class to get an all-encompassing idea of what the holiday is about.

You can also use it as an interdisciplinary activity and tie in different subjects. Have your students write about the sciences, technology, engineering, arts, and the math behind the celebrations.


☑ Numbers Behind The Traditions
Math questions created to get your students problem solving while teaching them facts about the special numbers in Chinese culture. The numbers used in the questions are meaningful in the Chinese culture. The answer sheet can be given out as a Fact Sheet to accompany the informational booklet included in the “Fun Facts about the Lunar New Year” activity.

This activity can be used with the Problem Solving Template and Strategies packet.

Learn about the parts that make up a mythical dragon and start a discussion about the shapes that can be used to create one. You can have your students list out the parts and have them create their own dragons using their own shapes.

The outline version can be used as a coloring sheet.
The answer sheet can be enlarged to poster size and displayed on bulletin boards.
