This is the year of the rooster!
Chinese New Year will be celebrated for 2 weeks. It begins on January 28, 2017!
Your students will love learning about the Chinese New Year and you will love addressing the Common Core with this terrific Close Read Activity designed for students in grades 2-4.
This close read is a terrific way to teach all about the Chinese New Year in a fun and engaging way! This year is the year of the rooster! Students will be so interested in the informational article that they won't even realize that they are learning important vocabulary development, comprehension strategies, and note taking skills. There is also a multiple choice assessment task. They will have the opportunity to learn the meaning and pronunciation of new Chinese words and create a Chinese lantern craft! There is also a Gung Hay Fat Choy (Happy New Year) coloring sheet and a dragon packet cover to color as well. In my 2nd grade classroom, I put the sheets into a packet that I staple along the side like a book so the kids to use throughout the week that we are doing this close read in class. The packet takes 4 days to complete. Students will finish the writing task on the 5th day and then they create the Chinese lantern of their choice. There are 3 different lantern styles. My students LOVED, LOVED, LOVED studying the Chinese New Year last year and I am sure I will have just as much success with it this year too! If you purchased this unit from my store last year. Please go into My Purchases and download the updated version! If you purchase this unit today... you will get a new updated version each year! It is a terrific deal! Thank you so much for previewing this product!
