A great way to get students to practice Chinese speaking is by role-playing. After a content-based lesson on reading prices and how to buy and sale in Chinese (video on my website), I give my students this activity to do. I divide my class into groups of 2 or 3. One person in the group will act as the storeowner and the other person(s) are customer(s). The store owner takes the card with prices and the customer takes the card without prices. You can do this oral activity in the following ways. My students really enjoy it!
• Customers ask the storeowner for the prices of item they are purchasing and record the prices they hear from the store owner
• Customers and store owner practice bargaining for the best prices
• Students can also create their own items for sell and prices using the blank template
