PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Celebrate the Chinese New Year (also know as Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival) with a fun activity! Teach your students about a holiday celebrated by one fifth of the world’s population. This versatile introductory activity can be used in most classrooms, in any subject!


“Fun Facts About The Lunar Year” is the introductory segment of my Lunar New Year educational series. (Lunar New Year will be used to reference Chinese New Year and the Spring Festival). Math, Art, and other cultural activities are coming soon!


The “Fun Facts About Chinese New Year Introductory Activity” is one of the activities in my Lunar New Year educational series. This activity can be used in conjunction with Chinese New Year Poof Book Activity, Chinese New Year Math Activities, or Chinese New Year Dragons Clipart!. You can now get all the Lunar New Year activities as a bundle!


This activity talks about why the Lunar New Year was changed to the Spring Festival, the different parts of a mythical dragon, the Chinese Zodiac, getting “lucky money” in red envelopes, and much more!


Use the questions to generate interest, to activate prior knowledge, as writing prompts, or as a gateway into another cultural activity!

An illustrated Fact Sheet created to generate interest about the Lunar New Year. This infographic can be used with any other Lunar New Year activities. The Customs and Traditions of the Lunar New Year, the Chinese Zodiac, and the Parts of a Dragon are displayed in this infographic.


☑︎Meanings Behind the Traditions – Worksheet/Recording Sheet/Fact Sheet
Get your students to start thinking about the Lunar New Year with these cultural questions. This versatile worksheet can be used several ways:

+ Have your students write down what they think, using prior knowledge or by making connections to other holidays they have celebrated, or customs they know about.

+ Give your students the questions and have them research the answers.

+ Hand out the answer sheet as a Fact Sheet for the Lunar New Year.


☑︎Task Cards
Task cards can be given to individuals or groups to solve. The cards can be used with the worksheets to record answers. Can be printed front and back with “Numbers” Task Cards (look for them in the store or in the bundle) to provide students with one cultural question and one math question to answer. Your students can use the worksheet to record all the information they gather.
