I originally created this interdisciplinary activity for my 2nd grade students to complete a literature circle via blogging. It was high interest and the kids LOVED it! Send me a message if you’re interested in more details for executing the blog!
In this activity students will read Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith and use graphic organizers to complete tiered questions based off Fountas & Pinnell “about the text, within the text and beyond the text” model. There is at least one question per chapter, plus additional questions to promote higher level thinking!
Questions include but are not limited to sequencing, making text-to-text connections, comparing & contrasting using a venn diagram, and inferring while using text based evidence to support student answers! Students need to do some research too, looking up information on given websites, use dictionaries and the thesaurus!
This can be done in a small group, individually, with partners or as a teacher directed lesson. Great resource for literature circles, guided reading, shared reading, read-to-self or read-to someone in the Daily 5 model!
