This chocolate themed unit is based on the fantasy book titled Chocolatina by Erik Kraft.
I love reading! I also want my students to enjoy reading every day. Plus, I want to enjoy teaching reading. Through teacher instruction and experience, I have found genre-based instruction to be the most successful for learners. Genre-based instruction is engaging and offers SO many teaching opportunities. So many, in fact, my head was spinning with which books to use and which strategies to use with what titles. Ahhh! This unique unit connects fantasy literature with informational text and biographies all about CHOCOLATE!
This NO PREP unit includes 1-2 weeks of chocolate themed reading and writing! This unit includes book suggestions, lesson plans, and interactive activities for reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This paired text approach easily connects all of the elements of literature to informational texts and biographies. Students will study author’s purpose, elements of literature, and text features of informational texts.
I hope you and your students enjoy this chocolate themed unit!! Be sure to have some Hershey’s on hand! The lessons in this unit also work well in a Sub Tub!!
