Allow your students the freedom to make choices about their learning. After assigning weekly words using the Words Their Way Word Study Program, task students with completing a Tic Tac Toe before the end of the week. This choice board is designed with 4 activities per Tic Tac Toe, so students will ideally practice 1 activity per day in preparation for a weekly assessment on Friday. You have the flexibility to decide if you want students completing horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or 4 corners Tic Tac Toe. Perhaps, even playing Blackout Tic Tac Toe as part of a review unit. I suggest using the first 4 weeks of school to teach the various activities to the class, one per day and then to allow students to practice the activity. Laminate a choice board for each student at the beginning of the year for use on a weekly basis with a dry erase marker.
This choice board practical for use with Words Their Way Word Study, but can also be used for full class spelling instruction.
I designed this choice board for use with the Daily 5 and Reader's Workshop models.
Coming Soon: Posters to hang in your classroom as reference if a student forgets an activity. This will minimize interruptions during Word Study or Guided Reading Groups.
