CHOO-CHOO CHOOSE GOOD FRIENDS

You will love this train-themed friendship resource! It's ready to print-and-go!

I hope that you will find this resource helpful in teaching students to identify positive and negative characteristics in friends. I have included color and black and white copies of every page except the tickets page.

In this 27-page PDF download, you will receive color and black and white pages of “Choo-Choo-Choose Good Friends” activities.

1) Cover

2) Title

3) Instructions

4-15) “I Choose Friends who are..” printable train activity (color, b/w)

16-22) “Good Friends are Not” printable railroad signs activity (color, b/w)

23-24) “Tickets to Beginning a New Friendship” prompts (color only)

25-26) “My Friend and I Love to” printable (color, b/w)

27) Credits. Clipart credit linked to Whimsy Clips.

Distribute a copy of page 4 ("I choose friends who are") to each student, as well as an assortment of the train cars (all or some). Students will select their top 3 characteristics of a good friend and cut them out. Next, they will glue them to page 4 to make their own unique Friendship Express! I have included blank train cars if students want to add their own ideas. This would be great to follow-up with using whole-group or small-group/partner discussions, as students can compare and contrast what characteristics are most important to them and to their peers.

Beginning on page 16, students can also identify negative characteristics of friends. They will glue their least-favorite characteristics to the railroad crossing sign. I have included blank railroad crossing signs if students want to add their own ideas.

Pages 23-24 offer simple sentence starters that model to students how to introduce themselves to a new friend and how to initiate play with a friend.

Pages 25-26 allow students to share what they love to do with their friends. They may also draw themselves onto the train car.
