Product Description
As a special educator, I was constantly looking for easy, practical assessments and extensive practice for my students for a variety of skills for their IEP’s. I’ve created this bundle of activities to help you informally assess as well as provide practice for your students to identify the operation in a word problem.
The first 4 pages of this bundle includes informal assessments. Use them for pre-test, post-test data or use them as IEP samples.
The next page is a teacher recording sheet. Show your students each of the 24 task cards and have them identify the operation (As you can see, even if you do the task cards in order, the operations are mixed up, so students can’t simply look for patterns). This recording sheet will easily help you identify patterns (struggling with the difference between multiplication and addition or can’t pick out subtraction problems).
The next page is an operation clue word chart. My students relied heavily on these charts when solving word problems.
The next two pages are sorting mats for the task cards. One has QR codes with the corresponding task card numbers (so students can self-check in a math station) and the other doesn’t have the QR code (for classrooms without this technology)
The task cards themselves include 24 cards, the first 12 are basic whole numbers and the second 12 include decimals, which make it easy for differentiation. The two sets of task cards are the same, only the second set includes QR codes with the answer to the task card. The task cards may be used in a variety of ways: Set up as a station activity and have students sort them according to the operation needed to solve, set them up around the room and have students use the recording sheets (page 24-27) to record the operation needed to solve, use them as an informal assessment (using the teacher recording sheet, pg. 8) for IEP data, or have some ready for fast finishers to solve and check using the QR codes.
I hope you find this bundle useful in your classroom. It is my goal to provide teachers with tools that can be used year after year that not only save them time, but also fulfill a need. Let me know what you think! Email me at technologytimeout@gmail.com.
