Choosing the "just right" book is a challenge for many kids but hopefully, this may help!
This product will aide your kids with visuals to help them choose the “just right” book! The three posters can be displayed in your classroom library with the bunting that states, “Got Books?” Each poster gives kids questions to ask themselves to help them determine if they have chosen an appropriate book for their independent reading.
Also included are bookmarks in both color and black and white with the pictures from the posters but not the words. This will be a visual reminder to think about what they are choosing carefully. These can be laminated and put in book baggies or sent home with parents so that everyone is using the same language! Vacation book-too easy; Smooth sailing-just right, and Dream book-too hard.
Lastly, I have created a book log that your kids can use for brief periods of time to analyze their reading to see if they are indeed choosing just right books. There is a reflection piece that allows them to write and reflect. I would only encourage them using it for a 3-4 week period. As we know, if it is not purposeful, it is not useful to anyone, including the kids!
