Chop Chop Chippity Chop is a fun song for teaching compound meter (6/8 meter)! My youngest students love this fun folk song! We sing it in Kindergarten and 1st grade and play the game for improvisation and beat practice (with a compound meter feel). Then, bring it back to present compound meter and practice reading and writing!
A whole set of game cards is included (color and ink friendly). We stay busy acting out the lyrics while each student has a turn tapping at the board. So much fun!
Improvise the lyrics, tap the beat, and tap on the rhythmic icons to prepare compound meter. Present compound meter (or 6/8 meter), then practice reading and writing the rhythms!
Part-work slides are also included, along with an ostinato and teaching tips! Writing the phrases one at a time builds into writing the whole song while playing The Case of the Missing Rhythm.
Extra practice cards are also included in full color and ink friendly for small group work or individual assessment.
