Effective for middle school or beginning high school chorus
♫ ELIMINATE students whining when you have to stop.
♪ Steps 1-7 Eyes on Music, Steps 8-10 Eyes off Music
♪ Can Easily be modified for band and orchestra.
♫ Music Teachers: Save your time and save your voice with this handout! Have the students read each step in the process from the list and then clarify each one.
♪ Do your students often whine “why can’t we just sing it all the way through?” Once they have gone through this activity, they will see the value and necessity in each step.
♪ After going over the handout, make a poster of this, hang it in your room, and refer to it as benchmarks.
♪ Most chorus members do not realize the number of steps you go through to bring a song to “performance ready” mode.
♪ Use this handout to help them learn to be patient and know that if they take the time to learn the piece properly, it will reap huge benefits.
♪ This could even be led by a substitute teacher as a SUBSTITUTE ACTIVITY!
♪ I created my own .mp3 accompaniment files for each piece so I could reinforce (play) their voice parts against the accompaniment.
