♫ This warm-up is a great sight reading tool for chorus, as it will help to increase accuracy in your students' sight singing.
♫ The Italian word “scala” means ladder.
♫ Chorus students LOVE singing this skill builder, because they enjoy immediate success using the numbers. Use the relationship of a ladder steps to compare pitches.
♫ Students have been working with numbers since preschool, so introducing the scale with numbers first (rungs on a ladder) allows your students to easily transition to solfege, making the connection between the steps on the ladder and the solfege syllables for the pitches.
♫ Understanding the corresponding relationship between the solfege syllables and scale degrees will make your students happy. :-)
♫ By returning to “1” students reinforce the feeling of the home tone. (do).
♫ Band and Orchestra students can play this as a warm-up well, and transpose on sight to their beginning scale.
