Christian Skits for Use with Actors and/or Puppets
Skit 10: Dr. Rubenstein Studies Actions that Defy Fear
In a series of ten lessons, Christian Skits address science from the standpoint of Christian values. Scientists have studied human reactions to fear and stress. The human heart can speed up, breathing patterns are altered, and cold sweats may make the skin feel clammy and cold.
Dr. Rubenstein, or “Dr. R.” as he is known to young Joey, studies the reactions of the human body to fear and then digs deeper into courage. Dr. R. and Joey explore what makes a person defy fear and do the right thing despite feelings that can seem insurmountable.
As a part of the skit and the extended activities, the children review the actual events that are recorded in the Bible as a part of Esther’s life. They discuss Esther’s choices, even distinguishing qualities that made her brave.
The object of these lessons is to present science from a Christian standpoint, and to teach Biblical lessons from a scientific standpoint. The stories of the Bible are not myths – they are real – and it is proper and fitting that they be taught as such.
