Christian Skits for Use with Actors and/or Puppets
Skit 7: Dr. Rubenstein Grinds it Up
In a series of ten lessons, Christian Skits address science from the standpoint of Christian values. Science plays a huge role in farming today as disease and insect resistant plants are introduced. Additionally, technology modernizes harvesting and streamlines the transformation of the crop to food on the table.
Dr. Rubenstein, or “Dr. R.” as he is known to young Joey, demonstrates milling grain and explains how it is then processed into edible forms. Then he and Joey explore the spiritual meaning behind the idea of separating the grain from the chaff. There are only two parts (Dr. R. and Joey), so the skits are manageable for use in the classroom, home school, Sunday School or children’s church.
As Skit 7 unfolds, the story of Ruth reveals her willingness to take care of mother-in-law Naomi and her desire to serve Naomi’s God. As a part of the extended activities, the children review the story and then consider the fruit of Ruth’s obedience – a marriage to Boaz, and the privilege of having a child together who is in the lineage of Jesus. What an honor!
The object of these lessons is to present science from a Christian standpoint, and to teach Biblical lessons from a scientific standpoint. The stories of the Bible are not myths – they are real – and it is proper and fitting that they be taught as such.
