Christian Skits for Use with Actors and/or Puppets
Skit 9: Dr. Rubenstein Goes to a Convention
In a series of ten lessons, Christian Skits address science from the standpoint of Christian values. Many scientists are members of SciTS , an organization dedicated to “the science of team science”. While at first blush, the phrase may seem odd (after all, it’s just a short phrase and it has the word “science” in it twice!), the overall thrust of the group is a sound one. Members of SciTS facilitate the sharing of ideas from scientists across curricula and geography borders.
Dr. Rubenstein, or “Dr. R.” as he is known to young Joey, explains the value of teamwork, both as a scientist and as a member of God’s team. Dr. R. and Joey explore Nehemiah’s dedication to rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem and how he used teamwork to accomplish the project.
As a part of the skit and the extended activities, the children review the actual events that were a part of rebuilding the Jerusalem wall and also discuss Nehemiah’s leadership qualities, God’s sword (His Word), consecration, and more.
The object of these lessons is to present science from a Christian standpoint, and to teach Biblical lessons from a scientific standpoint. The stories of the Bible are not myths – they are real – and it is proper and fitting that they be taught as such.
