This Christmas Number Sense pack makes for a fun activity at Christmas time as your students practice the skills of reading a tens frame, filling in a tens frame and writing numbers for numbers 0-20 in the recording sheets. They can even practice writing expanded numbers.

There are a few ways to use this pack

★ As a scoot game. Place the either 10’s/20's frame cards or number cards (or even a mix if your students are ready) around the room and provide your students with a recording sheet. Students roam the room going from card to card and filling in their 10’s/20 frame to match the card and write the correct number in the space underneath. I have provided 2 versions of the 20’s frame one with the first 10’s frame filled in and one with nothing filled in – just choose what would suit you best.

★ As expanded number practice – recording sheets include a 20’s frame sheet that has students filling in the 2nd 10’s frame and then writing the expanded numbers as an equation e.g. card ‘m’ has 12, students would add 2 to the 10’s frame and would write 10+2=12 (this activity has 2 styles of recording sheets)

★ As a matching number activity to match the 10’s frame with the correct number. This can also be done as a memory game where students have the cards flipped over and turn 2 cards over at a time to see if they match, if they do, they get to keep the cards. The winner is the one with the most pairs at the end.

★ Number order (either the 10’s/20’s frame or number cards) and odd/even sorting with the number cards (which are colored accordingly).
