Solving 2-step equations around Christmas time (Winter Break)? Add a little holiday spice to equations practice with this Christmas-themed math activity.
Solve equations in the form of px+q=r or p(x+q)=r. Find two versions of this two-step equations practice, each with 26 equations. One version emphasizes operations with decimals. Both versions have the same solutions. Therefore, easily differentiate by using both versions simultaneously without any hiccup in the activity (if you want).

The Holiday Twist:
Students solve 15 random equations (out of 26 equations). Then to save grading time
(on winter break!) for the teacher, they use their answers to reveal a hidden message on one Christmas-themed greeting card
. Find 8 greeting card messages
in this product. Two of the 8 unashamedly use Christmas in the message; another is a joke about X-mas. No I’m not telling; it is that good. These messages are grouped together so that one could choose not to use them. Also find one very generic message for any student whom traditionally celebrates other holidays (or doesn’t celebrate). I enjoy hand selecting the recipient of the message, matching the message to the student’s personality.
Remember when the students turn in their work they are essentially sending the teacher the Christmas card. “Oh what thoughtful students I have!”
