This differentiated Fact and Opinion/Christmas Around the World lesson was what I created and used for my formal observation this year. My students thoroughly enjoyed it, and I was able to cross the curriculum by incorporating social studies standards as well!
I will say that I purchased another TPT seller's Christmas Around the World for the Common Core Classroom that I used for my informational text. However, you may already own a Christmas Around the World lesson plan that you could also incorporate and delete the slides that display the handouts I used. If you do not currently own a unit, I strongly recommend the one I purchased!

Differentiated Literacy Group Activities:
1. Students will read and discuss the differentiated texts with their group members.
2. Students will participate in the Kagan Structure, Fan and Pick, to determine if the statement on the task card is a statement or a fact.
*Differentiated Literacy Groups’ Tasks:
Red Groups will have a passage on Christmas traditions in Germany. They will decide if the statement on their task cards is a fact or an opinion. If the statement on the card is a fact, they will need to turn it into an opinion. If the statement is an opinion, they will need to turn it into a fact.
Blue Groups will have a passage on Christmas traditions in Mexico. They will decide if the statement on their task card is a fact or an opinion with three choices provided. They will need to cite their evidence if it is a fact and can be proven in the text.
Yellow Groups will have a passage on Christmas traditions in England. They will decide if the statement on their task card is a fact or an opinion with two choices provided. They will need to cite their evidence if it is a fact and can be proven in the text.
3. Students will write their response on their recording sheet. (Answer Keys will be provided for Blue and Yellow Groups upon completion, and the teacher will assess the red groups since their response is not a multiple choice.)
4. Students will complete their Reflection Log and evaluate their participation as a group member.
5. Students will complete their Exit Ticket.
I have included my actual Powerpoint (flipchart) so that you can edit it to fit the needs of your classroom and access the hyperlinks. I have also included a PNG format if you want to keep the graphics the same; however, you will not be able to click the hyperlinks on the PNG format to prove if your fact is true or not or the YouTube link that I have included on Slide 8.
