Want to teach about Christmas and Winter holidays around the world, but you're short on time? These reading comprehension passages are a quick way to teach your students about different ways winter holidays are celebrated while practicing their reading skills.
These Holidays Around the World passages introduce students to how holidays are celebrated in different countries. This is an for my full unit for Holidays Around the World. It can be used by itself, though! Ten different countries that celebrate Christmas plus Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Diwali are included. There is one passage page, plus one follow-up comprehension page.
Please check out the Holidays Around the World preview above to get a more in-depth look at the unit!
There are ten Christmas-celebrating countries and 3 other winter holidays included.
- The Netherlands
- The Philippines
Each country or holiday gets a 1-page passage with pictures to represent the holiday, followed up with a page for questions (3 text-based questions and 2 fact writing lines).
What about digital?
There is now a digital component included in this resource. The passages have been digitally reformatted and converted, and they are now available in Google Slides. The link to the Google Slides document is on page 4 of the PDF.
Reading ranges for this would be a whole-group read in first grade and an independent read in second grade and third grade.
I also have a full unit that covers the same countries and holidays. It is a more in-depth unit.
