This Christmas Carol Challenge is a great way to get students' brains working hard and thinking outside of the box. Pictures, shapes, and words are put together in ways that they give a different meaning. For example, the word "partridge" written inside of the words "pear" and "tree" means "a partridge IN a pear tree" (lyrics from "The Twelve Days of Christmas"). Another example is a picture of a knight with holes in his armor. The answer here would be "O, Holy Night". This worksheet includes sixteen brainteasers, two of which are above. I have also included the answer sheet. You can use this to get your students' minds open and ready for a lesson or as a challenge. You can divide your classroom into small groups and set a timer, allowing each group to work together to finish as many brainteasers as possible in the allotted time. The group that has the most correct answers and/or finishes first receives some sort of incentive.
