This is a perfect activity for students who have categorizing, describing, or asking/answering questions goals!
Included in the download are 10 category trees with 6 objects that belong in each category (presents). Each present has a picture of the object as well as a written word making it easier for younger children to use this activity. There are 60 pictures (presents) total.
Categories featured: farm animals, zoo animals, fruits, vegetables, school supplies, ocean animals, winter, summer, pets, and transportation.
*Instructions are included in the download*
★ Print, laminate, and cut out each present box and tree.
★ Provide each student with a tree (or more than one if trying to increase the difficulty of the activity).
★ Put the presents in the middle of the table.
★ Instruct the student to choose a present and determine if he/she has that category. If not, have the student look around the table to determine if a different student has the category for that item.
★ A few items may fit into more than one category – this is a good time to talk about different categories.
★ Give each student a point if he/she can find the correct category for the object he/she selected. The student with the most points at the end is the winner.
★ Other uses: use this activity to describe the objects on the presents, ask and answer questions including WH-questions, and expanding utterances.
