These Christmas Coding Games
are a wonderful way to introduce coding to students or as a way to practice coding without technology. You can use this as a center for students to practice logical reasoning and sequencing of steps. Students should write or “program” the entire sequence before they “run” their program to see if it is correct. This is challenging and will help build their logical reasoning skills. There are no wrong answers unless students don’t collect all of the necessary pieces. There are many ways to complete the tasks. There are a number of types of boards and directions in this set so you can easily differentiate
within your classroom.
These games make great STEM
activity that can be played whole class, in groups, in partners or independently. The games can be put in a science center as a fun, seasonal activity.
There are 3 different activities. For each activity, students use one of four program directions: move forward, turn right, turn left or repeat 2 times.
☃ Help Santa!
- has 4 different game boards where students must follow a specific sequence in order to help Santa. There is also a differentiated version with less steps as well for each of the 4 boards.
☃ Get Santa Ready!
- has 4 different game boards where students must follow a specific sequence in order to get Santa ready for his Christmas Eve trip. There is also a differentiated version with less steps for these boards as well.
☃ Build a Santa!
- is a less sophisticated coding activity. You can use this to introduce coding or as a way to differentiate the activity. Students build a Santa by collecting each piece in any order. There are two different game boards.
