Christmas Common Core Math and Literacy Centers for Kindergarten
1. Numeral/Tally Puzzles (1-30)– Print on cardstock, laminate, and cut apart for students to match. They can be split into groups for students needing differentiation.
MCCK.CC.5 Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1–20, count out that many objects.
2. Number Puzzle Pictures– Different puzzles for different levels. Some are in color to be laminated and cut apart for a puzzle and some are in black and white for students to color and cut apart if you wish. There are several puzzles counting by tens and then three different sets of puzzles counting by ones (1-10, 11-20, and 21-30).
MCCK.CC.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
MCCK.CC.2 Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
3. Geometric Shapes– 2D and 3D
Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones, cylinders, and spheres).
4. Christmas Tree counting by tens and by fives.
MCCK.CC.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
5. Match each reindeer to its rhyming word family.
ELACCKRF2: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
a. Recognize and produce rhyming words.
6. Christmas Tree Letter Match- Match the upper case letters to the lower case letters on the Christmas trees.
ELACCKRF1-
Students demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
A– I can recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
7. Beginning Sound Light Match- Match the picture to the letter that makes the beginning sound of the picture.
ELACCKRF3-Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills by decoding words.
a-demonstrate one-to-one letter-sound correspondence by producing the primary or most frequent sound of each consonant.
8. CVC Words- Pick a purple bulb. Sound out the word and match the blue bulbs with the correct letters to each purple bulb.
ELACCKRF2: Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
d. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words.
9. Sight Words-These Christmas bulbs can be used for sight word recognition flash cards.
ELACCKRF3-Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills by decoding words.
C-read common high frequency words by sight.
