This differentiated center is PERFECT for this time of year! Some firsties are still struggling to identify and short and long vowel words while others are “beyond” that skill and ready to sort words into more specific groups (ie words with no short/long vowel sounds OR words with both a short/long vowel sound.) AND, I don’t know about your students, but mine are ready to move on from simple sorts that include just “cvc” and “cvce” words. If you’re in the market for a challenge, look no further!
I made this activity to accommodate for my beginning readers and better differentiate for my more advanced readers. It includes vocabulary from our reading series (Treasures) but is certainly not exclusive to that series. After all, good vocabulary is just good
