This is a project I have enjoyed doing with my students for several years. It is nice to take a break from your typical instructional routine and mix it up a bit around the holidays. This research project is designed to be completely student centered. Students will be able to choose a foreign country to research, take notes on, write about, and create and present a report on.
This is a fun and educational way for students to spend the last days, or weeks, leading up to winter break. I have taken this project a step farther and planned my class’ holiday party celebrating various Christmas traditions and foods from around the world. I've had parents bring in traditional Christmas foods from their own cultures, or from the country their student learned about.
This research project requires students to read, take notes, create an informational presentation, and demonstrate knowledge gained in a final presentation. This is a common core aligned project and addresses numerous common core standards including Reading Informational Texts, Language, Writing, and Speaking and Listening.
