MadameJeFaisTout has created an upper-level reading passage for advanced and AP-level students to read. This particular product is about how Americans celebrate Christmas, written in French. There is a separate coordinating product available about Christmas in France. Incorporating both higher level grammar (subjunctive, various tenses) and vocabulary (thematic), this text is ideal for a pre-winter-break activity that serves also to fit into the Holidays and Celebrations component of the La Vie Contemporaine overarching theme for the AP language and culture exam. This passage is followed by two activities. The first activity asks students to analyze the passage for products, practices, and perspectives and compare it to their own experiences. The second is a reflective writing where students relate a special tradition they observe that was not mentioned in the article, as they are asked to comment on themselves in the cultural comparisons section of the AP exam. Presented as a Word document, this can be edited to the tastes of the teacher and/or the abilities of the students.
