Teachers and SLPs love the ease of targeting listening comprehension with high-interest materials for Christmas! This fun activity can also be used for articulation carryover, voice goals, fluency, and reading comprehension! Therapy planning made easy when you use these holiday-themed fun facts! Students love getting to play a "game."

Use these cards to target the auditory skill of listening for details.

This download will create everything you need to make 48 individual fun fact cards about Christmas and a fun motivational game.

All text is nonfiction and covers many aspects of Christmas including:

✎ the history of trees,

✎ lights,

✎ candy canes,

✎ decorations,

✎ and the holiday itself.

You can also target these skills for mixed groups:

• carryover of articulation skills

• fluency of speech

• rate and volume of voice

• reading comprehension

A fun motivational activity to use with these cards is to let your students be Christmas detectives responding to inquiries to see who will be the best informed.

To play stack the fact cards face down and let the SLP/teacher draw a card and read it aloud to the first player. Each card has a factual statement and a question. If the student answers correctly he/she is

allowed to make 1 tally mark on his “notepad.” Play continues in this fashion going to the next player(s) until all the cards have been answered. The student with the most tally marks is the winner.

This activity can also be used as a reading comprehension task. Give the student a full sheet and let them read the facts and the question. They can highlight/underline/circle the specific information in the text that will answer the question or they can write the answer on the sheet.
