This Search and Find contains words relating to Christmas/Holidays. 2 versions of each sheet give you the choice of using the word Christmas or the word Holidays. Students will sort the words into different categories including decorations, treats, people, clothing, items under the tree, etc.
A “Search and Find” activity is a more educational version of a word find. Although my students enjoyed word finds, I always thought they lacked any real value. I created my Search and Find activities to allow my students an occasional opportunity to complete a word find, but they must also sort the words into correct categories showing some understanding and knowledge of the words.
My Search and Find activities come in two versions to allow for differentiation. The simpler version contains a word bank. The word bank helps the students in both finding the words and in sorting them into their correct categories. The more difficult version has no word bank. Students are expected to make greater use of their knowledge of the topic and its categories to complete the page.
I have included blank List, Group, Sort activities for Christmas, Holiday, or Winter words. Students brainstorm as a class, in a small group, with a partner, or on their own a list of all the words they can think of related to a topic. Students then find words that go together, for example decorations, things to eat, weather related, etc. and form groups. The last step is to label the group. This is a great vocabulary building activity.
A simple word find version and an answer key are also included.
