This reading resource includes:
-- a two-page reading passage with brief references to the origins of the English language, the origins of Christmas and some of its traditions, and the origins of some words associated with the holiday;
-- a post-reading vocabulary page of four words from each passage – this comes in two formats, one with “Merry Christmas” at the bottom of the page and one with “Happy Holidays” (both pages have the same vocabulary words);
-- a page of questions (assessing comprehension as well as allowing students to express opinions while citing evidence);
-- rounding off the resource is a list of 34 words associated with the holiday to help students choose a word to research for the “word origin challenge” at the bottom of the question page.
A full answer key is provided for objective work.
