These Christmas-themed, mental math games provide a fun way for your students to revise / reinforce operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. With the ‘Roll, Solve, Color’ sheets there is the additional activity of identifying the answers (which your students write above each number fact) as odd or even numbers, and coloring the spaces accordingly.
The 'Roll, Think, Write' sheets have empty spaces for the students to write their own number facts. There are four sheets: 1. number facts that equal the number rolled; 2. number facts that equal double the number rolled; 3. number facts that equal ___ more than the number rolled; 4. number facts that equal ___ times the number rolled. (For 3 and 4, the teacher or student groups/pairs can fill in a number, e.g., number facts that equal 10 more than the number rolled, number facts that equal 4 times the number rolled. Please direct your students to write a number fact instead of a whole number sentence (mainly because there isn't enough space.) So, working on the sheet with number facts that equal double the number rolled, every time a student rolls a 6, in a space above the dice picture he/she would write a number fact that equals 12, e.g., '18 - 6' not '18 - 6 = 12' ~ starting at the bottom and racing to the top.
Each game can be played in pairs or small groups; each student has their own game sheet. The winner is the first person to reach the top of any column. The games can even be played individually: the aim is to race to the top to see which column wins.
*All the game sheets are black & white. There are 3 addition, 3 subtraction, 2 multiplication, 1 division, and 4 empty number fact sheets.
