Crack the Christmas holiday codes. I designed this resource as a fun math centers activity to help my students review and practise their multiplication math facts. The children have to know their math facts ion order to crack the secret code. There are two ways to play this game. The first set of differentiated cards ( multi coloured is more challenging than purple) have multiplication equations that have to be answered I order to figure out the letters of the alphabet and crack the code. The second way to play is that the kids have to create a multiplication equation to match the letter of the alphabet in order to create a code for the message that they are given. They can then share their code with partners so that the partners then have to crack the code. There is an answer sheet for your convenience.
It is designed with 3rd and 4th grade in mind. I have used this successfully with both my more challenged math kiddos and higher level math students. The kids love to work together, independently and in guided groups to crack the fun holiday secret messages.
3 colour coded alphabet cards to be decoded
16 differentiated equation cards
12 phrase cards to be coded with equations
Worksheets to show kids’ rationale and practise strategies
Us this as a guided group work activity, centres activities or simple additional fun practice.
Happy Holidays to you!
