Here are 10 8.5"x11" Christmas-themed number recognition mats for a math center! The pictures in each box give you (and the kids) a "hint" about how to use it - but here's a brief description:
Print and laminate 1 or more sets of these for your kids.
They will need 1 mat at a time, a dry erase marker or 2, wikki sticks/bendaroos/pipe cleaners (or something bendable and moldable), and unifix cubes (or some other kind of manipulative).
"Write!" box - trace the numbers (my kids say them out loud in a silly voice as they trace them).
"Count!" box - Use a dry erase marker to X off objects as they count them out loud. Helps develop/consolidate 1:1 correspondence :)
"Bend!" box - Use wikki stix/bendaroos/pipe cleaners to create a fancy version of the number. Wikki stix/bendaroos work best because they'll stick to the laminated surface while kids work, making it easier to construct the fancy number! You can buy them at the dollar store, Target (they call them "wax works strips") or online at Oriental Trading (they called them "wax craft sticks").
"Make!" - Use manipulatives to make then number. We use unifix cubes because it helps with fine motor skills to put the blocks together; however, you could use whatever you want!
