Winter Poetry Writing and Ornament Project! Looking for a little pep in the room? Add spice with this lesson and make your students and classroom festive!!
This 6 page pdf document contains guidelines for writing a winter/holiday poem and suggestions for creating an 3-D ornament to complement.
It also has a pre-writing printable and 2 rough draft printables (one for a 12-line poem and one for 16-line poem).
A 4-point grading rubric is included using components in creativiy/final draft; line requirements; content/word choice; ornament; and on topic focus.
Students love doing this every year! I've done it with them for the last 5 years. We display the ornaments and poems in our classroom throughout December to make our classroom festive, just before we leave for the winter break!
This also gets them up to present to the class in a fun way. In addition students polish descriptive writing skills and vivid word choice. The included thinking map and rough draft sheet provides handy tools to take students through entire writing process.
