Description
Creating patterns with shapes and colors is fun, but creating patterns with colorful Christmas themed graphics is much more than just fun!! It is important for students to be able to identify, create, complete, and extend patterns in order to obtain a solid foundation in math. This Christmas Patterns Unit is perfect for teaching and reinforcing this skill. This unit includes material and activities for whole group, small group, centers, and independent learning.
Christmas Patterns is a hands-on Math unit which is geared toward students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st and maybe even 2nd grade who are working on patterns. The unit includes 13 pages of picture cards to create patterns for whole group or small group. They work great in a pocket chart. I have also included Letter cards for A, B, and C to label patterns. There are also 11 pages of pattern mats (3 of which are b&w for cheaper printing)-these work great at centers, during small group, or independent work. Another math mat offers higher-order thinking by allowing students to create and explain their own pattern.
In addition to the picture cards and pattern mats, I have also included 8 printables that coincide reinforce pattern skills. The printables focus on the 4 “I Can” statements that cover patterns. I can recognize a pattern. I can create a pattern. I can complete a pattern. I can extend a pattern. The printables are also hands-on; they include cutting and pasting to create patterns. If you would like me to create additional patterns that are not included here (ex: AABB, AAB, etc…) please feel free to contact me. My email address is morethanmath@yahoo.com.
