Get into the holiday spirit while working on reading with expression! Silly holiday sentences feature different types of punctuation. Students must read to a partner with enough expression that they can guess what type of punctuation the sentence has. "Mrs. Claus burned the cookies?" sounds very different than "Mrs. Claus burned the cookies!" With this pack you get 21 festive sentences, a worksheet to record correct and incorrect guesses (color presents green for correct guesses and red for incorrect), and a printable label if you want to make a storage container. I use an empty Clorox wipes container to store sentence strips. This can be used as a center or a class set can be prepared and students can work with partners. This activity really gets kids paying attention to how punctuation sounds as both readers and listeners.
