This sweet freebie makes it really easy to differentiate your Read & Write the Room center. There are three different sets of numbered cards (8 cards in each set). Each set features a different picture symbol (elves, Christmas trees, gingerbread men). All you have to do is split your class into three different groups, then write an individualized set of letters or words on each group's set of cards. Each group grabs a recording sheet (with picture symbols that match the cards), then goes around the room looking for their picture symbol and recording the words on their cards.
For example, you could differentiate a Kindergarten class or K-2 EC class in the following manner:
~ Non-readers: elves - alphabet letters
~ Reading Level A-C: Christmas trees - words from -at family
~ Reading Level D or above: gingerbread men - Pre-primer sight words
This resource includes:
~ 3 sets of numbered picture cards (elves, Christmas trees, gingerbread men)
~ 2 different recording sheets for each picture symbol (one has manuscript handwriting lines, the other just has plain lines)
~ 1 teacher planning sheet
~ 1 "I Can" poster with kid-friendly visual directions
Note: the cards are all blank so you can decide what letters and/or words to write on them. This allows you to differentiate this center year after year no matter what the needs of your students are.
