Christmas Traditions: more specifically, Christmas traditions at the White House. Work on reading comprehension using this high interest passage. I had the idea for this passage, and it turned out being fun to write. It's filled with some interesting facts I think your students will love to learn. This Christmas themed reading passage is perfect for the holiday season, or I really think you might could use it any time you are studying the White House. Kids are usually like me in the fact that they are just intrigued by the White House, so I think any time you use it they will find it interesting.

Traditions discussed: the official Christmas Tree, Decorating the White House and the use of volunteers, Official gingerbread house, and the official presidential Christmas card.

IMPORTANT---- I offer this SAME passage in two different formats. This particular product is a one page passage with 6 text-based questions that go along with the passage.

This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but it can be used with more advanced third graders or weaker fifth grade readers. Please use your best judgement.


What's included?

This pack includes a one page reading passage that should help students better understand what a holiday tradition is and facts about several White House holiday traditions.

In addition to the passage, there are 6 questions. One is on the definition of adornments, one focuses on why students think it is important for people to pass a security background check before they are allowed to volunteer at the White House, and then there are 4 other questions.

An answer key is also provided.
