In this practice activity, students will practice converting Roman numerals to our number system in a fun, seasonal way. This package contains 28 Roman numerals to convert on seven pages with four conversion activities on each page. The largest Roman numeral used is MMMMIV (4004). Each Roman numeral is represented as a picture hanging over a fireplace. Each fireplace has blank stockings hanging from its mantle. The number of stockings indicates the number of digits in the answer to the Roman numeral conversion. Students should look at each Roman numeral, convert it to our number system and write the correct digits on the blank stockings. For example, on our cover sheet CCXIX is in the frame over the fireplace, and 219 (the conversion) has been written on the blank stockings hanging on the mantle. Students can color the fireplaces and stockings. This would also make a very cute bulletin board display.
We have enclosed a key for each page so students may self-check, as well as the key in list form.
